Her primary responsibilities including reviewing medical documents and ensuring appointments and recommendations are completed as expected. April plays a key role in onboarding newly hired RNs, ensuring they are well-versed in the requirements set by CT DDS and ICES/WDLT. She conducts routine audits and retraining to maintain consistency in medical management across all residential and vocational facilities. Each day begins with planning visits based on priority and need, making no two days alike. Her role aligns closely with the company’s mission statement: providing the best possible care for our individuals. April believes that developing trusting relationships is essential, and she emphasizes the importance of respect, dignity, and patience, allowing individuals the time they need to express their thoughts and feelings.
April's background in this field began in 1989 after high school, working as a Direct Support Professional (DSP). Her extensive experience has made her transition to an RN in developmental disabilities a natural progression. Outside of work, April is passionate about traveling. She aims to see the world, try new experiences, push her limits, and overcome personal fears.
Patience is a crucial core attribute in my role. At times, our individuals may have difficulty expressing their feelings or indicating if they are experiencing pain or discomfort beyond their baseline. Patience enables the nurse to take the necessary time to assess these situations thoroughly. By listening carefully and observing non-verbal cues, we can better understand their needs and provide appropriate care and support. This attribute fosters trust and helps create a safe environment where individuals feel comfortable sharing their experiences.
My "why" is to embrace life as an enriching experience, dedicated to creating lasting memories for myself and others. I strive to instill positive experiences in my family, friends, coworkers, and the individuals I serve, ensuring that our shared moments are meaningful and impactful.
Treat others the way you wish to be treated. This principle guides my interactions and fosters empathy, respect, and kindness.
